Barbara Homann VP Communications

Barbara’s spiritual path is intricately connected to the development of compassion in herself and others, and she wholeheartedly accepted Compassionate Houston’s invitation to join the board in 2018. As a lifelong advocate for human rights, she strongly believes in Compassionate Houston’s mission of creating a community that is built on respect, compassion, and inclusion.

With a master’s degree in Social Work and certification in person-centered therapy, she currently works as corporate trainer with a passion for connecting and engaging and presents on a broad range of interpersonal skills and healthy living topics to diverse audiences in the Greater Houston area in collaboration with Employee Assistance Programs.

In 2018, she spoke on Emotional Intelligence at the Annual Texas Diversity & Leadership Conference, with 800 attendees and representatives from public offices, and was honored to be invited by NASA as a luncheon speaker. In her previous roles as HR Manager, Barbara was guided by recognizing and honoring diverse backgrounds and cultivating cultures where people thrive.

Barbara completed her 20-week Compassionate Integrity Training Facilitator course in 2020 and has facilitated six 10-week courses, co-sponsored by Compassionate Houston and in part by the Jung Center Houston. Her facilitation style—rooted in emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and inclusive dialogue—extends across her roles as a CIT facilitator, corporate trainer, and nonprofit communicator.

Barbara’s many volunteer engagements bear witness of her lifelong mission of making a difference in people’s life and spans charitable projects with Star of Hope, stewardship at The Women’s Home, advisory roles with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program, symposium organizer and speaker with the National Diversity Council, volunteering at the Rothko Chapel, a sacred place for contemplation, arts and human rights, and a seven-year tenure as a senior leader at Jade Buddha Temple. She continues to co-facilitate a weekly meditation and Buddhist book study group, which began in 2016 and transitioned from in-person to virtual during the pandemic, maintaining its rhythm and depth throughout.

Over many years, Barbara was actively involved with various stage performing groups in Houston and Europe. She loves a good book and the great outdoors, enjoying bike rides in local parks, hiking when visiting her children in Colorado, or planting new herbs in her garden to enrich her 30+ year long vegetarian and vegan lifestyle.
