Ten years ago, Karen Armstrong convened an interfaith group of spiritual leaders to craft the Charter for Compassion, which calls for all faiths, all nations, and all people to affirm and embrace compassion as a guiding value. The creation of the Charter launched the Compassionate Cities Campaign, and in 2011, Compassionate Houston was founded by Rev. Betty Adam.

There are now over 450 compassionate cities, and more than 2 million individuals and organizations have signed the Charter.
